In the ACES Living-Learning Program, freshmen and sophomores live and work closely together both in and out of the classroom. The LLP curriculum introduces a group of academically talented Honors College students who have an interest in cybersecurity to the hands-on technical and non-technical aspects of the field. It also takes full advantage of the D.C.-based companies and government agencies involved in cybersecurity. A co-curricular and pre-professional program related to cybersecurity complements the academic experience.

There is no application process directly to the ACES program or to the Honors College. To be considered for ACES:

Apply to the University of Maryland by the priority November 1 deadline. There is no separate addendum or special application for the Honors College at that time.
All students are automatically considered for the Honors College. Learn more about the Honors College admissions process on their website.
Students will be notified of admission decisions to the University and to the Honors College around the end of January. Students will be asked to preference their interests in particular Living-Learning Programs, including ACES.
The ACES team reviews application materials of the students who preference ACES and will send invitations to admitted students.

The University hosts Admitted Student Open House sessions in the spring for admitted students. There will be a lot to do and see on those days, including Honors College and ACES information sessions (where you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions of current Honors and ACES students).

Additionally, on select dates, current Honors students in the Honors Ambassadors program will be available to host for a day admitted Honors College students. Prospective Honors students will be able to get an up-close feel for what a day in the life of an Honors student entails, from classes to campus life. ACES has limited scholarship opportunities for incoming students.

University scholarship awards are independent of admission to the Honors College. There are no separate applications for merit scholarships; all students admitted from the November 1 priority deadline are automatically considered for merit awards through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Please watch your mail and email for more information during the spring as final decisions about merit scholarships are typically made by early April. In addition, all students should complete the FAFSA in order to be considered for need-based aid. See Scholarships for more information.

After being admitted to the University and invited to the Honors College the next step is to submit the Honors College Living-Learning Preferencing Form, which is available in your My Coalition University of Maryland Checklist. Submitting your program preferences does not commit you to attending the University or ACES. You do not need to decide about attending Maryland until the May 1 confirmation deadline.

In order to ensure best consideration for acceptance to the Honors living-learning program of your choice, including ACES, we strongly recommend that you submit your Preferencing Form by the best consideration date, which is Friday, February 16 for fall 2018 enrollment.

To confirm your enrollment for fall 2018 you will need to submit your Decision Response through your My Coalition University of Maryland Checklist by May 1. Submitting your Decision Response to confirm your fall 2018 enrollment by May 1 also confirms that you will enroll in the Honors College (no need to do anything special to confirm to the Honors College/your living-learning program).

Orientation sessions for incoming students run most of the summer; but if you can possibly work it into your schedule, we strongly encourage you to attend one of the four Honors Orientations. Orientation is when you’ll meet with an advisor and sign up for classes, learn more about the University, meet your new living-learning program faculty and staff, get your ID card, and make a bunch of new friends.
