Alvia Naqvi is a first-year student from Potomac, MD majoring in Computer Science with an interest in double majoring with Finance. She is interested in cybersecurity because of its increasing relevancy with the introduction of AI into the software engineering space. She joined the ACES student board to give back to the community that made her feel like she belonged on such a big campus. Along with being an ACES board member, she is an officer for the Association of Computing Machinery club. She loves travel, painting -- especially water coloring -- and hiking.

Edward "Teddy" Marine is a Freshman Computer Science major from Towson, Maryland. He chose the ACES LLP for its unique offering of like-minded students collaborating on and learning about cybersecurity. He's passionate about cybersecurity because of the unique challenges and puzzles that it offers and its wide-reaching consequences on all sectors of business and personal life.

Emily Ho is a first-year Computer Science major from Ellicott City, MD. She joined ACES to expand her knowledge of cybersecurity, an area she had limited experience with prior to attending UMD. She is actively involved in the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) and Women in Computing. Emily joined the student board because she is dedicated to making a community that supports one another academically and nurtures lasting friendships and trust.

Karl Capili is a first-year student majoring in Computer Engineering from Fort Meade, MD. His interest in joining ACES was to delve deeper into national security through the field of cybersecurity. He gained this goal thanks to his high school’s Homeland Security Signature Program, the only high school in the nation to have such a program. Karl ran for the ACES board because he thoroughly enjoys planning and organizing events, large or small!

Andrew Hill is a sophomore Computer Science major from Abingdon, MD. He joined ACES because he wanted to develop a wider perspective of computer science while being in a community of like-minded peers. He knew ACES would be a great opportunity to collaborate with other students in his major and find friends.

Andrew wanted to run for student board to give back to the ACES community after all the good it did for him in his freshman year. He credits ACES for helping him find some of his closest friends here at UMD and for making his freshman experience a lot less difficult.

Arush Gune is a sophomore Computer Science major from Edison, NJ. He joined ACES because he wanted to diversify his CS knowledge and understand what it really means to work in the cybersecurity field. He knew that ACES would be a good opportunity to meet peers in his major and like-minded people to bond with. 

Arush wanted to run for ACES board because as an out-of-state student, he understands the switch to college life can feel scary and wants to help so no person in ACES feels left out.

Jack is a sophomore History Major from Ocean City, MD. He joined ACES because he wanted to explore the field of cybersecurity, as he believes it will help him construct a well-rounded educational foundation In particular, he is interested in how cybersecurity developments influence the modern global and political events he studies. By joining ACES, he has not only gained valuable skills but has also become part of a community of incredible students. 

Outside of ACES, Jack likes to spend his time going to the gym, drawing, hanging out with friends, and playing video games.

Phoebe Dainer is a second-year student from Bethesda, MD majoring in both Computer Science and Finance. Her interest in cybersecurity comes from her dad, who works in the field. She joined the ACES student board to make an impact in the ACES community and be an advocate for the ACES student body. Along with being an ACES board member, she is part of the Smith Investment Fund quantitative team and club running. She loves to run (5k, 10k, half), and her favorite video game is Minecraft!

Marissa Carper is a sophomore Computer Science major from Pullman, WA. Marissa joined ACES because she wanted to learn more about cybersecurity and pursue a career in the field. She knew that the ACES Living Learning Program would be the perfect opportunity to expand her knowledge of cybersecurity and computers while connecting with other students who share similar interests.
